Reset - tips for a calmer mind
Okay we agree life is hectic, juggling busy schedules, managing work and family, responding to technology – In our busy lives cultivating personal space for reflection is very important for a happy mind and body and for good health.
Here are my top tips designed to realign, atune and cultivate optimal states of mind and body health:.
Tip 1. Mindfulness of the Breathe
Okay its time to breathe…… take a few minuts to focus only on your breathe…inhaleing and exhaling……take more time if needed…….drop your shoulders….notice where abouts in your body you feel tension…..focus on letting go of the tension and relaxing……
Tip 2. Socratic Dialogue - De-Bunk that worrying thought
Shift from your emotional mind state to a problem solving mind state…catch the worrying thought and try to challenge it…..ask your self is the worry realistic…whats the chances of it actually happening.
Tip 3. Re-Frame Worry
Shift your perspective…..ask yourself “what would I say to a friend if they were feeling this way?
Tip 4. Activate The Bodies Natural Immune System
Go for a 20 minute walk or other physical activity….replace adrenalin with endorphons. An increased heart rate exercise induced burns up excess adrenaline from our systems helping us to feel calmer and more relaxed.
Tip 5. Enrol in a Yoga, Mediation or Mindfulness group.
Tip 6. Allocate a worry time of 10 minutes during the day or evening and stick to it. Write down your worries on a piece of paper and when you find yourself worrying outside of the allocated time……Say……STOP…..to yourself
There are infinite techniques for cultivating a calm mind and body – the most important thing to remember is take time, and create space for persnal reflection.
